Lately I’ve been thinking about the next season of life.
As my husband and I move closer to retirement, I’ve noticed something changing in me. I’m finding more joy in simple things.
This past Saturday was a good reminder.
We started with a “couples massage.” Not at a spa…just two massage chairs at the mall. We’ve had the expensive kind before, but honestly, we enjoyed this as much.
Then we wandered over to a Space Invaders game. He won. 😊
We laughed so hard that, for a little while, we felt like kids again.
On the way home, we stopped for ice cream. Then put on our pajamas, watched a movie, and called it a night.
Nothing extraordinary.
But as I got ready for bed that night, one thought kept coming to mind.
This was a really good day.
Last week I wrote about staying off social media on Saturdays and Sundays. This was our first weekend living that out, and I never once felt like I was missing anything.
Instead, I was making memories.
James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”
Sometimes those gifts aren’t wrapped in big adventures or expensive experiences.
Sometimes they’re found in a simple Saturday with the person you love.
As I get older, I’m realizing that those ordinary moments may end up being the ones I treasure the most.

Life can be so beautiful when we just take a look at what’s right in front of us.
I agree with you Mr Wright
